Become A Better Owner/Director By Using 3 x 3’s

Is working long hours 6 or 7 days a week, the best way to get ahead?

It seems many childcare centre owners and directors worldwide believe the only way to run and grow their centre and make it successful, is to stay focused on it, hour after hour, day by day, month after month, pretty much at the expense of everything else.

If you find yourself in that constant spiral of having to stay working on your centre for long hours, 6 and 7 days a week, STOP.

There are two areas you need to look at working on, one is your productivity skills and the other is to start planning to use 3 x 3s.

Today I will focus on 3 x 3s.

So, what are they?

3 x 3s, are where you plan to take off 3 days from working and take a break, 3 times a year.

These breaks do not include public holidays, they are an extra break that are spread throughout the year in between public holidays and your normal holidays. Their purpose is to give you a consistent and regular break from your centre throughout the year.

The easiest way to do this, is to add an extra day to a weekend. On a 3 x 3 break, there is no work, you spend time with your family and friends, go away somewhere interesting for the weekend etc.

Most owners and directors say “I don’t have time to do that”.

The whole purpose here, is to do something that takes you away from work and refreshes you. You recharge your batteries and when you arrive back at work, you have higher energy levels and quite simply will be sharper, more creative and get more done.

When you constantly push yourself for long hours, day after day, month after month, you gradually drain your energy levels. You make more mistakes, are less creative and can have a tendency to be more irritable amongst other things.

Over the years of coaching, I have noticed that the centre owners and directors who are having greater success in their business, are always taking time off to go and have some fun with their families and friends on a regular basis.

It doesn’t matter if you have a new centre or have a longterm highly successful centre, you will always be busy. What will make you more productive is keeping your mind sharp and your energy levels high.

Take the challenge, plan 3 x 3s into your year and start seeing the benefits.

Have a great week
